The latest artist showcase introduces work by Paris Sergiou, a Greek artist currently living in Cyprus. Paris creates drawings, paintings and 3D works. His drawings are absolutely spontaneous – inspired by anything that is happening around him; TV, people, anything. His paintings on the other hand are carefully calculated and prepared before he begins applying any colour. Below, Paris answers a few questions about his work and his life as an artist.
When did your interest in art/creating begin?
I was 4, in 2008
What is your starting point for each piece?
I see, I hear and I sense a certain stimuli, all at the same time and these start to formulate inside of me a picture which gradually completes itself. This is what I draw, paint or construct accordingly. What I said helps to understand how I make the ‘energy’ portraits of people that I meet…without discrimination. I see the person and I control my thoughts. I break the process in two parts but everything happens simultaneously. There is no part one and part two but there are simply two parts. I connect with the energy of the subject and I superimpose that with what I see in reality. These two parts inter-mix together and a picture appears inside of me that i draw, paint or construct. I know absolutely that the portrait represents the ‘inner truth’ of that person.
Who/what influences your work?
I am influenced by the ‘’ΟΛΟΝ’’ (Entirety).
What do you hope the viewer gets from your work?
I can help the viewer to understand a different way of communication which involves unseen parameters but also lines, shapes and colours which are visible. I was born knowing this new language and I want to teach others how to use it.
What do you think about the term Outsider Art? Is there a term that you think works better?
I think this concerns people who are involved with art but are not artists. I am not interested in placing creativity in any box.
What are you working on at the moment?
Right now I am working the same way as I was always working. I am stable. What changes are the conditions around me.

Where do you see your work taking you in the future?
I know that what I draw and what I paint is new. My work will lead me to the right path so that my creative language communicates with ALL.
